I have found Dr. Sternberg to be as concerned with post surgery care, as he is with pre-surgery
Dr. Sternberg has performed three surgeries on me, two bowel resections and the incision and drainage of a perianal abscess. My first surgery was complicated [due to] a widespread abscess in and around my psoas muscle, caused by a fistula. When my former gastroenterologist decided that it was time for surgery to correct the problem, Dr. Sternberg was recommended by two other surgeons, “as the only surgeon who could possibly do the surgery.”
Before the surgery, Dr. Sternberg met with my mother and explained everything about the surgery and the recovery process. My mother is very anti-traditional medicine and by the day after the surgery she was grateful to (and thrilled with) Dr. Sternberg.
I required a second surgery, six years later in a different location in my colon. Dr. Sternberg and the team at CPMC, took great pains to avoid putting my ‘under the knife’ a second time. This time my mother came to SF just before the surgery and was not nearly as concerned, as she and my father are both extremely confident that Dr. Sternberg has my best interest at heart.
I have not had any complications from any of the surgeries. I have found Dr. Sternberg to be as concerned with post surgery care, as he is with pre-surgery, which is refreshing not to be dismissed with the typical comment, ‘oh that is just the way it is’, when I inquire if this ‘ache or discomfort” is normal or ok.
